BMW 220d xDrive Gran Tourer

BMW 220 xDrive is exuberant to drive with sturdy engine and stylish body.

I always admire vehicles of BMW. These are simply eye-catching. Although other companies like Audi, Ford, Mercedes etc. are also doing marvellous jobs in this race. Their vehicles are also comfortable and modern. But still my choice is BMW. This company is keeping its promise of “Sheer Driving Pleasure” since 1916. It’s headquarter is present in Munich, Germany.

Every time BMW comes up with such a model that people are bound to appreciate their efforts. This company keeps on continuing their expansion into further more areas of the auto market, BMW has dared into the pleasant seven-seat minivan segment along with the BMW 2 Series Tourer models which proposes the size and functionality of a modern seven-seat hatch and all-wheel drive – a very first for BMW.

If we talk particularly about the 2 series, then I would love to write about BMW 220d X-drive Gran Tourer. Overall, the 2 Series Gran Tourer looks familiar because it is simply a stretched and taller version of the very efficient 2 Series Active Tourer.

In my opinion, the Gran Tourer is having the most headroom of any BMW. It almost felt like sitting in a greenhouse along with its panoramic glass sunroof. The position of seats is upright and the car has a quite large front dash.

The steering wheel is quite thick and has some nice paddle shifters as well as perfect controls for radio, and phone. The 220’s iDrive and Navigation integrates pleasantly with the head up display and is equipped with real-time traffic.

While looking deeply inside the Gran Tourer, it has a third row of seats that easily fold back down when not in use in order to increase cargo capacity. In fact, all five back seats are can be laid flat to gain a staggering maximum cargo capacity of 1905 litres.

Engine:

BMW smoothly mounted the 2 Gran Tourer’s engine transversely simply in order to maximise the volume of cabin. The 220d xDrive version that test takers tested pumps out smartly 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

This is extremely good for a 0-100 km/hr (0-62 mph) in a very respectable 7.8 seconds. The top speed of this vehicle is 135 mph. The clatter of diesel was only noticeable if you had the hood up or in a parking garage. The BMW engine of this giant is really very active, efficient and compact. It delivers power speedily and gives car an appreciating pace.

We don’t hope to see this vehicle in the US market. However, this kind of vehicle is very much popular in Europe and the 2 Series Gran Tourer looks to build on the marvellous success of the 2 Series Active Tourer, and similar magnificent MVPs in the segment.

These types of vehicles fit very well on the narrow European roads and their crazy tight garages for parking. Somehow, BMW still gracefully managed to infuse enough, typical “BMWness” into the grand 2 Series Gran Tourer that the driver of über practical car can enjoy pleasant driving.
