It is gearing up for its world premiere at the New York motor show next month. Last year, a prototype of this new petrol-electric vehicle was caught testing at BMW\u2019s Miramas test track in France.<\/p>\n<p>An electric powered X5 runs on a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder <a title=\"BMW X5 Engines\" href=\"https:\/\/www.enginecompare.co.uk\/make?car=all-bmw-engine&amp;make_id=28\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>BMW engine<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which returns 242bhp of power and 258lb-ft of torque. This engine works in combination with the electric motor. Electric motor is fitted at the front of eight speed transmission which returns 111bhp of electric power and 184lb-ft of torque<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, this <a title=\"BMW model series\" href=\"https:\/\/www.enginecompare.co.uk\/blog\/category\/bmw\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>system of BMW<\/strong><\/a> produces a collective power output of 309bhp and 332lb-ft, which is 55bhp more, but it has 81lb-ft lesser torque than its fellow 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel X5 xDrive30d.\u00a0 This electric system uses a lithium-ion battery \u2013 consisting of 96-cell structure \u2013 as the power source. The rear end of the battery pack has a 150-litre boot space comparative to existing Hybrid versions from the third generation of X5 and a further 500 litre boot space can be added by folding the rear seats.<\/p>\n<p>The X5 refined battery pack has a charging time of 2hrs and 45 minutes when connected to the 3.5kW wall box. This wall box operates at 16amp and 230V while consuming 3500W amount of energy.<\/p>\n<p>The new X5 xDrive40e clocks 6.8 seconds from zero to 62 miles per hour. It has an electronically controlled maximum speed of 131mph whereas the diesel powered powertrain has similar 0-62mph, but top speed is 143mph.
