Swedish automaker Volvo has finally entered the downsizing race for engines with Drive-E 3-cylinder engine<\/h1>\n

Volvo is going along with the trend of engine downsizing for its cars and is working on three-cylinder Drive-E engine. They are already working on 1.5 litre three-cylinder petrol engine with Drive-E technology<\/strong><\/a> could appear in its products within next two years.<\/p>\n

The three-cylinder engine<\/strong><\/a> will be built with Volvo\u2019s high-efficiency 2.0 Litre four pots with Drive-E technology. The CMA platform will likely to spawn several other products including the possibility of an XC40, but this has not been confirmed officially. The 60 series of Volvo cars will likely be offered with the 3-cylinder engines and likely models include S60, V60 and XC60.<\/p>\n

Sweden will host the new Volvo engine<\/strong><\/a> development and it is another step in Volvo\u2019s aim to leave the five, six and eight cylinder engines. Volvo\u2019s powertrain department\u2019s vice president Michael Fleiss said: \u201cWe have learned a lot from the development of our four-cylinder Drive-E engines and translated this into a highly responsive, compact and powerful premium-quality three-cylinder engine. The engine is being developed primarily with our new CMA architecture in mind but will also provide power for our 60 Series cars thanks to Volvo\u2019s advanced turbo technologies, while also meeting Euro 7 emission targets.\u201d<\/p>\n
