Government has announced a £15 billion investment plan for the road improvements around the country

It is a new road investment strategy to invest £15 billion on the road improvements but it is not about potholes, it is all about improving the road usability experience by improving the black spots and adding new lanes to the roads. The investment plan will be presented to the parliament very soon and is entitled as “Road Investment Strategy” focuses on more than 100 new lane miles adding to the entire network.

The Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin is presenting the news to the parliament today along with Chief Secretary to the treasury Danny Alexander. Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said in a statement, “the biggest, boldest and most far-reaching roads programme for decades. It will dramatically improve our road network and unlock Britain’s economic potential. Roads are key to our nation’s prosperity.

For too long, they have suffered from under-investment. This government has a long-term plan to secure country’s future and this £15 billion roads programme is demonstration of that. Better roads allow us to travel freely, creating jobs and opportunities, benefiting hardworking families across the country.”

In this investment plan, £2 billion are set to dual the A303 and A358 to the south west and the tunnel at the Stonehenge is also included in the plan. After the completion of this project users will be able to drive from London to the Land’s End within 15 minutes.

It is also included in the plan that A1 will also be expanded to dual carriage way from London to 25 miles from the Scottish border, the Ellingham. M62 will be converted into a smart motorway from Manchester to Leeds and the hard shoulders will be used for traffic.

£350 million are for the improvements on A27 from Arundel to Worthing and Lewes in the south east. These funds will be spent on improving congestion system.

The links to the Norfolk area in the east-west have £300 million for the improvements on A47 and linking to the A11, previously known as A1. All these projects including 84 others are new and about 16 projects are based on improvement only, however, it is likely to produce 6200 new jobs for construction in the country.  It is the biggest ever project after 1989, said officials
